Eric Schandelmeier
Eric Schandelmeier is our lead tattoo artist at Tatu Royale. He is originally from Viroqua, Wisconsin, but currently resides in Winona MN. Using skin as his canvas and ink as his medium, Eric employs his vast artistic skill in creating the stunning tattoos he is rapidly becoming famous for.
Eric has been tattooing since 2006. He previously worked at Mind Altering Tattoos in Lacrosse WI, under Chad Gregerson, but when Chad decided to open Tatu Royale, Eric came with him. Eric is a highly notable artist in Winona, skilled in not just tattooing, but also the creation of large scale surreal and realistic oil paintings. He loves surrealism and is heavily influenced by Salvador Dali. He is also skilled in pen and ink, charcoal, water color, pastels, pencil drawing, sculpture, and pretty much any other art form that comes his way.
Eric is a superb artist who often dabbles in the strange and freakish. His artwork is a precise mix-up of classic realism; a stark and often haunting interpretation of beauty; and a fascination with the grotesque.
Eric got into tattooing partly from his love of his own tattoos, and partly because he is continually inspired by the oddities of body modification. Becoming a tattoo artist seemed to him to be the next step in his own personal and professional evolution.
Eric specializes in portrait tattoos, but also enjoys doing high realism, surrealism, abstract, and dark art. When working with you, Eric focuses on building you a custom tattoo that expresses your ideas. It is important that your tattoo flows with your body and with any other tattoos you have or plan to have in the future. Eric has many dedicated customers so plan to make your appointments well in advance.
Eric is continually inspired by the works of his mentor, Chad Gregerson, who passed away in 2010. He has also been inspired by the sculptures of his older brother Ethan. Eric also takes inspiration from artists such as Sparx, Aaron Cane, Guy Etchinson, Neeco Haraldo, Giger, Mucha, Olivia, Shawn Barber, Greg Simpkins, and Mark Ryden. You can see glimpses of their styles in his pieces. Eric never wants to stop learning. He wants his artwork to keep going as far as possible and he believes that someday he will take over the world, artistically!
Words to the wise from Eric:
Keep an open mind and remember that good art takes time. We want you to have the best experience you can have.
